This supplementary PEP manual addresses chromosomal, single gene, teratogenic and multifactorial causes of birth defects as well as the prevention of birth defects and the counselling of parents and patients with, or at risk of, birth defects. The manual is being used in the Genetics Education Programme of the Southern African Inherited Disorders Association to train genetic counsellors.
